IPR Newsletter 2008, February/March

March 28, Seoul- The Internet has been practically a safe haven to counterfeiters, allowing them to connect suppliers and consumers with ease and anonymity. Top Korean Internet auction sites such as Auction and Gmarket that occupy nearly 80 percent of the online shopping market, were found to have been involved in the transactions of approximately 1,6500,000 fake goods worth a total of 30,400,000,000 Korean won from June 2005 to August 2007. To survive the growing amount of online infringement, some European companies say they are now focusing 80 percent of their resources in the company legal team on brand protection on the Internet.
