IPR Newsletter 2008, September

The second seminar of the Asia Invest European Business Organisations (EBOs) Asian Regional IPR Protection Project on Asian IPR Border Control and Enforcement organised by the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia was held in Jakarta from 28th to 29th day in August.
This Seminar provided stakeholders with a comprehensive understanding of common concerns throughout the region as well as providing both government and industry with examples of both success stories and current frustrations. An important feature of this Seminar was to demonstrate through practical cases and exhibits how actual enforcement work was undertaken and around 200 people registered and shared the practical cases and common concerns with us during seminar.


Meeting with Korea IP Office  
  The Korea IP Office and the EUCCK IPR Committee held the third working level meeting on ¡°Online IPR Infringement¡±on the 4th day of September to follow up on the onset on council with TM holders & OSPs at KIPO Gangnam Office.

Robin Pak of Louis Vuitton, HS Lee of Adidas, Nicole Bae of Philip Morris, BH Lee of Converse on behalf of EUCCK IPR Committee contributed for the meeting.
 
 
Amendment Proposal on Consumer Protection on e-Commerce
 
  On Sep. 18th, FTC (Fair Trade Commission) released that they are planning to legislate revisions on Consumer Protection on e-commerce to diminish the purshaser's damage and this will be delivered to the National Assembly at the end of this year in due course.
 
KCS strengthen its police on origin mark
 
  Korea Customs Service strengthen its investigation for infringing origin mark to enhance fair trade environment and prevent the damage of consumers.

Patent lawyers top earners in 2007  
  Patent lawyers were last year's highest earners in the private sector.

The National Tax Service report showed that patent lawyers earned 656 million ($589,000) won on average last year, the highest annual income recorded among nine high-earning professions.

The professions considered in the report included law, accountancy, and medicine.
