The EUCCK IPR Committee organized a luncheon meeting on Fair Trade and Consumer Protection with Consumer Policy Bureau of Fair Trade Commission (FTC) and foreign companies operating in Korea at Grand Hyatt Hotel, on June 12th.

 
Korea - EU FTA
 
  FTA between Korea and EU will help boost mutual growth by opening up opportunities for trade and investment, a leading European business leader.
``The ground is laid for more investments and trade,'' said Jean-Jacques Grauhar, secretary general of the EU Chamber of Commerce in Korea. The EU is Korea's second largest trading partner and a key source of trade surpluses.
 
 

Meeting with Investigation Planning Division of KCS  
  Investigation Planning Division of KCS held a meeting on KCS IP Protection Activities at Seoul Customs on 25th day of June. Below is KCS Crackdown Overview Jan-May '09 ;
- Enforcement on TM Violators recorded 191 Cases, 205 Bil. KRW, respectively decreases by 21%, 5% compared to over the same period a year ago

 
 
 
New Copyright Law Revision
 
  The revised copyright law, by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, grants authorities the power to suspend the Web accounts of Internet users transferring copyrighted content such as videos, music and text, for a maximum six months, will be effective from 23rd of July .
 
 
SPO Tackles Patent Crime Independently
 
  SPO reinforces its investigation capacity on patent crime. SPO newly armed with patent specialists to resolute trade dispute regarding IPRs with efficiency.
Mr. Kyoon-Taek Park, Senior Prosecutor at SPO said that the introduction patent forces to SPO makes it possible to tackle patent cases with no help of KIPO tribunal from now onwards.
 
 
Korea Defends IPR of its Food
 
  Set up by Korea Food Research Institute (KFRI), www.tradifood.net is aimed at making sure patents are not given out for traditional Korean food processing techniques.
 
 
400 MUSD Fund Proposed for Intellectual Property
 
  The Presidential Council on National Competitiveness proposed that the government create a pool of 400 MUSD by 2013 to protect the nation's intellectual property in line with globalization.
