The EC Internal Market and Services Commissioner Charlie McCreevy has announced a Communication emphasising IPR enforcement in the European internal market. Indicating satisfaction with the existing legislation, Mr McCreevy outlined mechanisms for developing more efficient and collaborative enforcement mechanisms.

 
November 4: IPR Committee Luncheon Meeting with Cho, Hoon-Goo from KCS
 
  IPR Committee Luncheon Meeting: "IPR Protection & the Fake Zero Project"
We invite all interested parties to an EUCCK IPR Committee luncheon meeting on "IPR Protection & the Fake Zero Project" with Cho, Hoon-Goo, Director of the Investigation Planning Division of the Korean Customs Service (KCS).

 
 
Meeting with Chief Prosecutor, HJ Chang
 
  EUCCK IPR Committee met Mr. Chang, Ho-Joong, Chief Prosecutor and Ms. Hyunjung Yoo, Prosecutor of Criminal Division VI and exchanged urgent issues to be tackled accross the various industry. We have agreed the need for further dialogue between prosecutors' office and industry and the meeting will be arranged with EUCCK IPR Committee members.
 
 

KIPO Conducts Quality Control Operation  
  The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) conducted a quality control operation to observe the service standards of online patent applications. Concluduing on September 4th, the campaign ultimately aims to improve the online system for each stage of the patent application process.

 
 
SPO Prioritises Ongoing Anti-Pornography Measures Over Protection of Copyright  
  The Supreme Prosecutor's Office (SPO) has announced that it will not be launching an investigation into claims by US and Japanese pornographers that their copyright has been infringed by unauthorised online uploads of their material.

 
 
Agriculture and Food GI Registration Details Released  
  The MInistry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has released data on domestic registrations of Geographical Indicators (GI). Gyeongsangbuk-do was the region with the largest number of registrations (17), followed by Jeollanam-do (15). Perhaps suprisingly, Jeju Province only has two registered GIs to date, indicating and imbalance in registration patterns between regions.

 
 
KIPO Commissioner Appears at WIPO General Meeting  
  The Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) Jung-sik Koh made a speech at the general meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organization in September. Commissioner Koh highlighted the need for international IP policy coordination, and emphasised the importance of IP issues in climate change and poverty reduction efforts.

Can MCST Shutdown Piracy at Online without Copyright Owners' Suit?  
  According to revised copyright bills, MCST can do enforce copyright piracy by taking an administrative regulation and order online service provider to shutdown / stop the transmission without lawsuit of copyright owners. Because government have a right to establish transparent environment, new laws allows these action.
