On the occasion of International Customs Day, the EUCCK Secretary General received an award from Commissioner Hur Yongsuk for active cooperation in Customs activities. The EUCCK has worked closely with the Korea Customs Service (KCS) in a number of areas in recent months, including IP Centre activities with key anti-counterfeiting officials.

  The EUCCK Brand Protection Committee, part of the IP Centre, will be holding a luncheon with Director Joe, Minho of the Simplified Customs Clearance Department of the Korea Customs Service (KCS).

EUCCK IP Centre Publishes Overview on SME IP Protection in Korea
 
 
The EUCCK IP Centre has published an article summarising many of the key IP challenges facing European Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Korea.

EUCCK Director Tom Duke made a trip to Beijing, China during January to visit a number of IP organisations. Many EUCCK members are experiencing cross-border IP challenges, ranging from international counterfeit supply networks to international technology licensing issues.
 
 

FTC Includes Pharmaceutical, IT Investigations in IP Annual Work Plan  
  The Korea Fair Trade Commission (FTC) have included plans for an investigation and monitoring of the pharmaceutical and IT sectors in their annual work plan. The actions are scheduled to be reported in June 2010.
 
 
KIPO Announces Decline in Filing Activity in 2009  
  The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) has announced that 2009 saw a 5.2% decline in filing activity from 2008 (covering patents, utility models, trademarks and designs). This was the first time an annual decline was recorded in over a decade.
 
 
KIPO Releases Patent Eligibility Assessment Guidelines  
  The Korean Intellectual Property Organisation (KIPO) has launched a website describing the patent filing eligibility guidelines in detail. The website is in Korean, but also includes an English language document.
 
 
KCS Commissioner Hur Outlines IP Plans in Interview
