Welcome to the Intellectual Property Centre of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Korea.

The EUCCK IP Centre covers an extensive range of IP issues, uniting firms from across EUCCK industry areas. Our primary focus is to provide services to our members to assist them meet the IP challenges they face in Korea.

Core activities include providing a platform for communication with government officials and enforcement agencies, as well as helping with IP violations and protection strategies.

The IP Centre also participates in a number of regional and global IP initiatives, as is a partner and point of reference for major international IP organisations.

The EUCCK IP Centre consists of three overlapping Committees:

  • Technology & Innovation Committee
  • Brand Protection Committee
  • Fashion and Textiles Committee

  • Technology & Innovation activities cover areas broadly related to industrial IP, including R&D policies in Korea, industrial secret protection, technology transfer issues and patent strategies. The EUCCK IP Centre is currently working to open better communication channels between users of high-end technology in Korea and regulatory authorities. The principal goal is to work towards an environment where technology suppliers can feel confident that their IP is secure, which will benefit high-tech sector investment and participation in Korea.

The Brand Protection programme covers work on counterfeit supply chains, trademark registration, cross-border IP issues (including parallel imports and customs policy) and copyright issues. The IP Centre is currently pursuing channels to improve the provision of IP statistics in Korea, as well as further strengthen relations with both policy makers and enforcement agencies. Addressing IP violations via online retailers also remains a priority for the Committee.

Fashion and Textiles industry activities are currently being designed to build on the recent success of the EUCCK in contributing to changes in proposed textile standard revisions. Efforts are focused on regulatory issues, as well as providing opportunities for information sharing between clothing, accessories, sportswear and luxury brand suppliers active in the Korean marketplace.
