The EUCCK held the yearly ¡°Trade Issues & Recommendations¡± press conference, addressing trade barrier issues experienced by the European business community, on March 23rd at the Hyatt Hotel.

Mr. Peter F. Thewlis, the vice president and Intellectual Property Rights Committee chairman opened the meeting by noting that the EU continues to be one of the most significant trading partners for Korea. In terms of FDI, the EU accounted for 4.78 billion USD, the largest source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), going up 58.9 percent compared to the previous year. Be it on bilateral issues or in the multilateral framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the EU and Korea are committed to cooperate both politically and economically.


EUCCK Team up with Seoul Customs Service to Crackdown Piracy on the Internet  
 

EU Chamber of Commerce (www.eucck.org), making headway in improving foreigner¡¯s investment and business environment in Korea, and Seoul Customs Service , a government branch responsible for IPR protection including border control and the comprehensive enforcement against illegal transactions on the Internet, will establish a MOU for cooperation on April 14, 2006 at the Seoul Customs Service, Nonhyundong, Seoul.

 
EUCCK-WCO: "Global Initiatives for IPR Protection and International Fair Trade"  
 



The EUCCK's Intellectual Property Rights Committee is hosting a luncheon meeting on "Global Initiatives for IPR Protection and International Fair Trade" with Mr. Michele Danet, the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Korea Customs Service at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on April 18th.

After starting imports in 1986, the cosmetic industry has opened the market in full scale since the 1990s. Today, from manufacturing to sales, the cosmetic industry is meeting the era of openness and globalization. KIPO rises as the ¡°hub of Asian patent information¡±
 
  Following the selection of Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO, Commissioner JUN, Sang Woo) as the development partner of an online international patent application system by the World intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the organization again selected KIPO as the operation and service agency for patent information in Asian region.

KCS: Special Crackdown Campaigns Confiscated KRW 19.2 Billion Worth of Fakes
 
  Korea Customs Service (Commissioner Dr. Yun-kap SEONG) confiscated IPR goods appraised at KRW 19.2 billion in 89 seizures through continuous crackdown campaigns from last July to prevent customer damage from frequent export and import of counterfeits and products misrepresenting their country of origin, KCS said on January 12.

  For the past three years, KCS made 1,255 seizures of counterfeit goods. The combined values of these fake goods are whopping KRW 856.6billion.
 
China uncovers 6,700 IPR infringement cases in the past five years  
  Chinese police have uncovered over 6,700 Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) infringement cases in the past five years, involving 3.5 billion yuan (437.5 million U.S. dollars), and have broken a number of international criminal networks.
