Seoul, June 28 - The EUCCK Intellectual Property Rights Committee hosted a luncheon meeting on "Korea's Anti-Counterfeiting Activities and Policies: KIPO Working with the EUCCK to Strengthen Industry Property Protection in Korea' with Mr. Won Jung Kim, the Director General of the Industrial Property Policy Bureau of the Korea Intellectual Property Office (KIPO). The director general of KIPO identified recent provisions of the current policies related to IPR, KIPO's anti-counterfeiting activities and initiatives being taken by KIPO to cooperate with international agencies and organizations for IPR protection. The EUCCK IPR committee addressed concerns regarding the lack of deterrent penalties against IPR violators, who employ all available techniques for the illegal trafficking in Korea and requested for easily accessible and consistent IPR awareness activities.

The EUCCK¡¯s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Committee is hosting a luncheon meeting on "Industry¡¯s Outlook on Korea's IPR Situation & Korean Government¡¯s Future Plans to Abate Counterfeiting and Piracy" with Mr. Ki Young Kim, director general of Clearance Facilitation Bureau of the Korea Customs Service (KCS) on July 20, 2006 (Thursday) at the Park Hyatt Hotel.

June 15, Seoul- During an exclusive meeting with the European Commission, the EUCCK IPR Committee asserted a growing concern that Korea's lack of IPR protection may hurts its current efforts to sign a free trade agreement with major trading partner countries. Ms. Marianne Gumaelius, Deputy Head of Unit New Technologies, Intellectual Property, Public Procurement and Trade Relations with Japan of the European Commission and the EUCCK's IPR Committee discussed IPR matters of direct interest to the European business community, which included border control enforcement, criminal cases and deterrence, trademark protection, and copyright protection issues.


 
Courtesy Call to the Ministry of Justice  
  The EUCCK IPR Committee staff members will make a courtesy call to the International Criminal Division of the Ministry of Justice on July 21st, in which the committee will present the IPR Committee members¡¯ concerns over the counterfeiting and piracy activities existing and causing grave harm to several foreign business sectors in Korea.

EBOs Committed to Combat Piracy, Counterfeiting  
 
Recently announced by the EU Commission, the European Business Organizations (EBOs) members have won the bid for proposal for the Asia-Invest II Programme, a two year joint IPR protection project aimed at creating an inter-regional network for IPR information exchange, raising IPR protection awareness in the region, building capacity based on regional research initiatives and strengthening cooperation with a view to substantially reducing the global trade in pirated and counterfeit products, and to taking effective measures against networks supporting such trade.
 
 
ADIDAS : Training Inspectors  
 
JJune 19, Daejon- Adidas, a member of the EUCCK IPR Committee is actively contributing to the training of government inspectors on how to differentiate between genuine and counterfeit Adidas item sold in infamous market areas and factories across the country. Adidas Korea participates in KIPO¡¯s Intellectual Property Training program in Daejon four times a year to educate investigators of the Korea Customs Service, Korea Intellectual Property Office, Korea National Police Agency and the Prosecutors Office on details of Adidas¡¯ IP protection activities, trademark information and every aspect to look out for when the officials encounter an infringement activity.

 
 
Trade Cooperation Division of KCS & EUCCK Confirm Futher Cooperation  
 

The Trade Cooperation Division (TCD) of the Korea Customs Service (KCS) and the EUCCK IPR Committee held an internal meeting on July 13, 2006 at the EUCCK Headquarters to discuss future plans for cooperation concerning strengthening IPR awareness and protection.

KIPO:¡°Patent office¡¯s call center impresses customers¡±
 
  KIPO (Commissioner: JUN, Sang Woo) announced that its call center for patent customers (Tel: 1544-8080) has received CQM (Contact Center Qualified Mark), a quality authentication for call centers, on June 15th.
