April 24, Seoul - ¡°Customs authorities were involved in 1,010 counterfeit cases, confiscating nearly 2.67 trillion KRW worth of fake goods such as handbags, leather goods, watches, clothes and electronic devices,¡± said Dae Bok Lee, Korea Customs Service. Director General of the Investigation and Surveillance Bureau during the executive level IPR meeting hosted by the EUCCK IPR Committee. Like so, the number of confiscations of IPR infringement shipments hit a record high in 2006 and though it is primarily attributable to the increased inflow of counterfeits and pirated copies, the implementation of stricter control surely contributed to the rise in the number of confiscations. The EUCCK IPR Committee members welcomed the efforts and improvements made last year by the customs authorities and assured ongoing support and full cooperation as and when it is required.
